Safia was conceived in Morocco, where I encountered a man returning from market on a donkey, his toque pulled low against the wind and sun. The figure reflects the paradox I found in the people there—a resilience shaped by harsh realities, yet softened by wit and humor.
His face tells two stories at once: one side marked by a trace of a smile, the other pensive. Sculpted at twice life-size, the work preserves these subtle tensions, allowing the textures and modeling to hold vitality at scale.
