Omo Girl

Drawn from the displaced tribes of Ethiopia’s Omo Valley near Lake Turkana, Omo Girl embodies both resilience and vulnerability. Though burdened with the realities of survival, her stance conveys defiance—the face of quiet resistance in a land where daily life demands struggle.

Subtle details temper her strength: one hand open in a gesture of need, toes crossed in a reminder of her youth. In bronze, these contrasts become a portrait of endurance and fragility interwoven. The work was awarded First Place at the National Sculpture Society’s annual exhibition, a recognition of its ability to transform an individual encounter into a universal testament to the human spirit.
