Mustang

Mustang originated as a commission for someone who saw the horse as their spirit animal, yet the work also draws on my own encounters with wild horses while cycling through Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. Rarely seen in their natural habitat, these mustangs grazed freely around us, their presence both untamed and deeply grounding.

Horses have long been central to my practice—perhaps a continuation of my early sculpting of animals during Narnia—but in clay they reveal something more immediate. The fingerprints left in the surface preserve a charge of energy, an animacy that tools alone cannot capture. In Mustang, that vitality is carried forward: a portrait of strength and spirit, both wild and intimately human.
