Migration takes its inspiration from the great wildebeest crossings of Tanzania, where herds surge through rivers under constant threat and at immense peril. The spectacle is one of nature’s most dramatic cycles—an image of endurance, survival, and inevitability.
The sculpture itself was a technical achievement, each figure individually modeled in wax to be burned out directly in casting. This process made the work unique, impossible to reproduce, and it has since been sold. As much as it honors the power of the migration itself, the piece also signaled a turning point in my own practice—an early glimpse of the ambition and scale to come.
