Leopard was created during my time with Artists for Conservation in Vancouver, following a formative trip to Kenya with Guy Combes and Andrew Denman. Immersed in their knowledge and passion for wildlife, I sought to channel my own practice into a work that went beyond representation—using the leopard not as mimicry, but as a platform for artistic expression.
Based on the rarity of my own sightings in Sosambu, where I was fortunate to see two leopards, the sculpture’s pose was conceived from imagination rather than direct replication. In doing so, it became less about observation than interpretation: a study in movement, tension, and vitality. The work is both homage to the animal’s elusive presence and a reflection of my own pursuit to merge natural inspiration with contemporary form
